We’re going all over the genre-map today. The only thing tying these tracks together is the fact that I came across them this past week.
First off, I stumbled on this High Five for Sci-fi Mixtape from Danish DJ-duo Vogelspand. It’s old-school Italo-Disco in all its glory. This is one of my favorite discoveries of the year. Respect to Vogelspand, this tape is blazin’.
Next is “Building All is Love”, a track from the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack. Karen O has teamed up with the Kids, a band made up of Nick Zinner (YYY’s), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/Atlas Sound), Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather) and others. Hints of children’s music, folk music and Arcarde Fire pervade the album…a good thing. Buy it here.
Basement Jaxx returns to the scene with an excellent album of dance tracks and club bangers titled Scars. The title track from the new album below. Buy the record here.
The title track from Why?’s upcoming record, Eskimo Snow. Buy it here.
Thom Yorke debuted four new songs at his gig at Echoplex in LA on 10/2. ”Judge, Jury & Executioner” and “Lotus Flower” are below. Thx go out to Sound Verite and YouAintNoPicasso.
Bat for Lashes gets a dubstep remix from Skream on “Pearl’s Dream.” Amazing.
Finally, props to Scott at Pretty Much Amazing for his Pretty Much Perfect mixtape. As he describes it: “From woozy dubstep, chillwave, and melodic lofi to pure pop, clouded bloops+bleeps+noise before closing with one of the most direct and beautiful pieces of straightforward indie rock I’ve heard all year.” It’s available to stream or download here. Sample the Gotye track, “learnalilgivinanlovin” remixed by Passion Pit below, whoa.
Turn it up & hit the dancefloor this weekend.
