01. It is called ‘Hopes and Fears’ and it is a brand new song taken from his “Hits” collection*. The single is out on 09/11/09 and the album follows on 16/11/09.
02. The song is very very middle of the road Will Young; it’s the direction he should have gone in after “Friday’s Child” if he wanted “Keep On” and “Let It Go” to be as successful as his second album. [He shouldn't have though, since both the third and fourth albums were awesome.]
04. Ultimately the song is very safe, very Radio 2 Playlist-esque and is likely to be heard frequently on local commercial radios. This is not a bad thing. The more airplay the better.
05. The song was written by Yolanda Quartey and Stew Jackson. Neither of these people have pages of Wikipedia, so I have no idea what they’ve done before. From what I can make out from Google is that they are both vocalists in a Myspace-type band called Phantom Limb, and both come from Bristol.
06. Will’s vocals are incredable on this track. It is the first real glimpse we see of his lower range; and it is impressive.
07. This could be an Annie Lennox track if;
- A. Annie Lennox was a real man.
- B. Annie Lennox was 20 Years younger.
- C. Annie Lennox won Pop Idol.
08. In the video, Will Young plays a pregnant man. Highlights include; him crying whilst eating ice-cream from the tub, him making a really disgusting/amazing sandwich, a man letting Will take his seat on the bus because he is with Child.
09. The Cover of the single, which won’t be released in physical form, only in download, features Will Young tied to a lampost wearing a very lovely suit and looking rather lovely. He isn’t pregnant anymore. One can only assume he was tied up on a stag weekend, got preggers with the male stripper and was left at the alter because of this. Poor knocked up Will Young.
10. Everything about this single is very enjoyable. It will appeal to the masses; so hopefully this song will chart within the top 10 unlike his last two singles ‘Grace’ and ‘Let It Go’, the latter of which was one of his best songs but somehow failed to make the Top 40. But it will also appeal Will Young fans everywhere because of his delecatable vocals, fantastic song and general wonderfulness.
11. Hurrah for Will Young. I Heart You.
Here is the video, and the song. You will enjoy it very much.
Hopes and Fears
* Please note, “The Hits” collection does not contain every Will Young hit, only the good ones.
