When downloading a movie, you always see the contents of the package – the files you download.

PSP Movies extensions (the last 3-4 letters after the file name, e.g. Lord_of_The_Rings.avi – avi) are as follows: .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .mkv, .wmv.

It is safe to download and run these files.

If you see other extensions, especially: .exe, .bat, .msi, .url – just uncheck them when accepting download (i.e. – just do not download them).

PSP Games

The games extensions should be: .iso, .cso or archives.

PSP Music

And almost the same with the music. Music files should end up with: .mp3 or .wma or .rm.

Adding "free" to search? In vain?

It’s not the first time I’m pretty upset with so called “freeware”. This time I needed DVD grabber (or ripper, whatever) and as I was sure there is some free solution I added “free” to my search. Whether you search for free VSTi or DVD ripper – lately you’re rarely offered the thing you really want directly – especially not for free. There are tons of various syndicate sites or how to call them. Download centralizing solutions. Well I go to one such site with the list of DVD rippers. Most of them were licensed as Demo – OK, I don’t mind, at least I know what to expect – and I can simply skip them.

So it happened that I downloaded some Agree Free DVD Ripper Platinum (“free” is even in the name of the actually downloaded installation file). After all it was mentioned as Freeware on one of those centralized download sites. First the software tells you it can’t process multiple files at once – because that can do only premium version. Ok… but when you really hit the Convert, software finally tells you how much it sucks. It can’t process the whole track. “Go to hell!” I want CDex for DVDs! Something simple and working.

I don’t mind… I really don’t mind that there are softwares I should pay for. What I’m objecting is that they try to cheat me. And I guess it even works sometimes – because there is a lot of poor users who hardly know what to think about this kind of “freeware”. It’s not enough that a lot of “services” offer “free download” of Shareware… like I should pay for the download itself otherwise? There are obviously many ways how to render word “free” in your searches close to useless nowadays. And lies are far from being the least used methods.

Azi am aflat că a apărut pe torente filmul asta de Cristian Mungiu, şi nu se putea o surpriză mai plăcută în această seară, care să mă binedispună în aşa hal. Filmul e împărţit în două, partea doi încă n-am văzut-o, dar mă bag imediat. “Tovarăşi, frumoasă e viaţa!“… conţine patru povestioare (legende) a câte 20 de minute aproximativ, din România anilor 80. Sincer nici n-am stiut la ce să mă astept, dramă sau comedie, pentru că nu am verificat nimic despre film înainte. După puţinele minute parcurse, am început să izbucnesc isteric în râs, iar la ultima “legendă” (cea a miliţianului lacom) era să fac pe mine )

Bravo lu’ Cristian Mungiu, şi celor ce au regizat împreună cu el acest film mirific.

Elliott Smith Unreleased Track

The indie label with the unfortunate name of Kill Rock Stars (not that Elliott Smith was really either/or) put out a majority of Smith’s records before he moved onto the Goodwill Hunting soundtrack stage and started releasing with Dreamworks.

The News is that Kill Rock Stars are re-mastering and re-issuing Roman Candle and From a Basement on a Hill. They are due on the 6th April.

Is downloading TV series (il)legal?

Today I came to think about something I want all pirates of the Internet and the anti-piracy nutters to answer and discuss.

Let us say I have VCR or any kind of personal video recorder and I want to record the latest Dexter episode on TV; so I can watch it the day after as I will be busy during the time it is aired on TV and I really do not feel like waiting for the rerun.

Unfortunately the video recorder fails and my recording fails. Now I have to wait for the rerun and possible spoilers online.

If my intention were to record it to watch it later and I have a paid subscription to the channel that airs Dexter; can I then legally download the episode from Demonoid or TPB?

In theory I should as I already had intended to make a recording of it.

According to the law in most countries I will be unlawfully accessing the material as not intended, so I am not allowed to download it.

What is your opinion?

Who would have thought that a little-known MySpace artist who had a small part of a Flo Rida song would debut on #1 on the iTunes chart for songs. Yes, Ke$ha has broken through with her single “Tik Tok,” which has reached #1 in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Currently, it’s at #3 in the US and #5 in the UK. We are not expecting a GaGa rise to fame, but 2010 might be her year. The songs we are listening to now “Blah Blah Blah” and “Kiss And Tell” are both too noisy for our liking. But, they are just teasers. So, there might be something else on her debut album Animal, which will drop on January 5th, 2010.

Selamat datang…!! ini merupakan situs resmi dari “Media Pembelajaran Sistem Tata Surya”. Situs ini disediakan untuk memberikan penjelasan secara lengkap mengenai aplikasi “Media Pembelajaran Sistem Tata Surya”.

1.  Media Pembelajaran Sistem Tata Surya

Aplikasi ini merupakaan sebuah aplikasi gratis (freeware) yang digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran tentang sistem tata surya. Media pembelajaran ini dapat digunakan oleh semua kalangan, karena didesain dengan simple namun dengan penjelasan yang lengkap. Selain itu aplikasi ini dilengkapi dengan animasi dan suara agar lebih menarik dan mudah digunakan.

Aplikasi ini juga sangat ringan, sehingga dapat digunakan pada berbagai macam spesifikasi komputer

2.  Versi

Sampai dengan saat ini aplikasi baru mencapai Ver 1.0 dan aplikasi ini akan terus diperbaharui seiring berjalannya waktu dan perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi.

3.  Cara Penggunan

Penggunaan aplikasi ini sangat mudah.

• Pertama, anda akan melihat video openning, kemudian pilihlah tombol play untuk menuju menu utama. (gambar 1).

• Pada bagian menu utama (terlihat sistem tata surya), anda cukup memilih salah satu planet yang ada . (gambar 2).

• Secara otomastis aplikasi akan memberikan “Informasi Umum” dari planet yang diseleksi.  Selanjutnya jika anda memilih tombol “Informasi rinci” , maka aplikasi akan memberikan penjelasan yang mendalam mengenai sebuah planet. (gambar 3).

• Pada bagian rinci ini, terdapat tombol “Play Animation”.  Tombol ini  digunakan untuk memainkan animasi yang ada pada informasi rinci ini. (gambar 4).

• Terdapat pula tombol “sound” untuk mengaktifkan/menon-aktifkan  suara. (gambar 5).

4. Creator

Aplikasi ini dikerjakan oleh 4 orang mahasiswa (identitas dirahasiakan), yang pada awalnya hanya bertujuan untuk menyelesaikan tugas dari salah satu matakuliahnya. Namun justru ini merupakan langkah awal untuk terus mengembangkan aplikasi ini.

SHANOA!!! A Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia Exclusive Review.

Alright, so about a week ago,

I picked up this game for really cheap off ebay and i played it in my spare time. I expected the game to be at least decent, and I really liked the fact that the art wasn’t the same anime style (i didn’t mind it, but i preferred the old style) from Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin (though those games were still moderate).

I really also liked the new way weapons (or rather, “glyphs”) were handled in this game, it was hard to adjust to but in the end VERY satisfying.

To be completely honest, I’ve played quite a lot of 2D castlevania games (I have only played curse of darkness for the 3D ones) and I always enjoy them, no matter what time they’re from or what storyline. They’re always enjoyable. But this game was the first game that actually caused me a bit of stress.

I’ve never died so many times unintentionally in a Castlevania game in my entire life! Even the NES Castlevania games weren’t this hard, at least I could get past the first stage without dying. Sheesh. But that all added to the quality of the game.

Dying constantly makes you formulate different strategies and to study your opponents movements, etc.

All in all, this was a very quality game, and its graphics rivaled Symphony of the Night (which I am still debating if this game was better or worse than order of ecclesia, that’s how good this game was).

Only downsides really was the music in this game. Though the QUALITY of the music was superb, I didn’t really enjoy it. It wasn’t as great as Symphony of the Night’s soundtrack. Not to say it’s soundtrack wasn’t bad though, it was still very nice, and I respected the quality of it, due to the fact that the horrid GBA soundtracks sound outdated.

So, to summarize, I think anyone with spare time and a DS or a DS emulator should definitely try this game out. It’s frustrating as hell but it’s VERY satisfying.

Day 68: "Just Lather," "The Tyrant"

1. WordSkills Review. We spent about 10 minutes reviewing number word parts by creating shapes out of strips of colored paper. For instance, students had to make dichromatic octogons or a triad of monochromatic duets. The team with the most wins received one extra credit point to use on the WordSkills test on Monday.

2. The Heinz Dilemma: Review. We discussed answers to the three scenarios of the Heinz dilemma and what moral stage each decision corresponded to. This was to check students’ understanding of the stages.

3. Introduction to “The Tyrant” episode of House, MD. We briefly discussed characters and the background of the episode students would be watching. Dibala, the dictator, is the Torres figure. Dr. Chase, the blond Australian doctor, is the barber figure. Dr. Cameron is his wife and another doctor on the team. Dr. Foreman is the doctor with the goatee who is in charge of the team.

4. Viewing: “The Tyrant.” Students watched scenes of Season 6, Episode 3 of House that pertained to the Dibala plotline. As they watched, students completed the viewing guide that can be downloaded here (kohlberg). We also paused frequently to discuss characters’ decisions and plot points. Students looked for parallels between “Just Lather, That’s All” and “The Tyrant” focusing on 1) the professions depicted, 2) the razor (i.e. What is the razor parallel in “The Tyrant”?), 3) Torres, and 4) the line “Killing isn’t easy, take it from me,” spoken by Torres.

Below, you can watch most of the episode we watched in class, except for the last part (which is the most important part). Sorry.

I highly suggest downloading the episode from iTunes if you’re interested in watching or rewatching the whole show. Unfortunately, it is no longer available on hulu.

HW: Finish Venn Diagram on “The Tyrant” viewing guide. This needs to be completely filled in with many different kinds of thoughts. A surface-level comparison is not enough. Study for WordSkills Unit 4 test on Monday. This is cumulative, so it will test words from Units 1-4.

Absentees: Watch the House episode above, focusing on the scenes with Dr. Chase and Dibala. Fill out the viewing guide as you watch. To fill in the scenes you miss at the end of the episode (if you don’t download it from iTunes) read the summary on Wikipedia. Then complete the Venn Diagram.
