Hikari Enhanced Comments enhances comments with features that make comments more visible and and becoming more exciting in website structure Installation:
Hikari Enhanced Comments requires at least WordPress 2.8 and PHP5 to work.
You can use the built in installer and upgrader, or you can install the plugin manually.
Download the zip file, upload it to your server and extract all its content to your /wp-content/plugins folder. Make sure the plugin has its own folder (for exemple /wp-content/plugins/hikari-enhanced-comments/).
Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress admin page.
Now you can go to widgets admin page and you’ll find a new “Hikari Enhanced Recent Comments” widget available
Installing and configuring ip2nation
ip2nation is a website that provides a MySQL database table, listing all world’s IPs and relating them to their respective country, together with each country name and code.
This table is provided in a downloadable .sql file. I don’t add this table together with the plugin because it’s updated from time to time, so it’s better to just get it from the source and install it.
You are not required to have ip2nation installed to use Hikari Enhanced Comments. The plugin uses it just to get country flags. If ip2nation is not available, or if you are not able to install it, all other features from the plugin will still work, only flags won’t be shown (the place where they’d go will be blank, don’t worry with broken code
First of course you must download the file. You can go to their home page and follow the ‘Download’ menu, or just download it directly: http://ip2nation.com/ip2nation.zip.
Once you have the file, you must upload it to your database. But here’s a cool feature: since its tables so big (somewhat 3MB the uncompressed .sql file, and 1MB after importing to MySQL) and rarely updated, I provided a way to add it to a different database, separated from your WordPress one. Doing so, you’re not forced to back it up together with your website content (after all, it’s not a relevant data worthy backing up, if you lose it you can just download it back from their site), and also if you have multiple sites you can have it stored only once.
If you wanna have ip2nation in the same database as your WordPress install, just use it to import the .sql file. If you wanna use a different database, I suggest creating a new one only for it. The trick is to assign over this new database, full access from your WordPress database’s user (you can find its name in WordPress config.php. If the same user can access more than 1 database, it’s easy for MySQL to provide simultaneous access to all of them. And if your WordPress database user only has access to these 2 databases, and ip2nation table only has this data, you shouldn’t have security issues. To know how to assing user permissions to databases, please call your webhost provider. Don’t install each table in separated database, ip2nation tables can be separated from WordPress but both tables must be in the same database!
As I’ve said, ip2nation database is big, I had trouble uploading it with phpMySQL. I just split the file in 3 and imported them separately, it’s just 2 CREATE TABLE in the begining and then a bunch of endless INSERT INTO. If you have timeout trouble, try splitting it in more files, or again request your webhost assistance.
Once you have your ip2nation database created, configured and populated with its data, and database user has privilege to it, go take a look if data was imported correctly. It creates 2 tables, ‘ip2nation’ with more than 40.000 records, and ‘ip2nationcountries’ with somewhat 250 records.
Now, to finish ip2nation installation, you must go to Hikari Enhanced Comments admin page, and under ‘ip2nation Database’ option, set ip2nation database name. If you just installed it in WordPress database, leave this option blank. If it has its own database, the full database name must be added here. Pay attention because many shared hostings only let you define part of databases names and hide the part you can’t change, make sure you’re using the full name here.
To help you diagnose ip2nation and see if flags and countries are working, in this same page there is a section just below options where you can see it working. This section uses a testing IP from Brasil to query ip2nation tables, and if it was configured correctly you’ll see its country code as ‘br’ and country name as ‘Brazil’, and just below you’ll see Brasil’s flag.
If you see all these info, you are good to go, gratz! If you see Brasil name and code but doesn’t see its flag, assure you have properly extracted the plugin. If it was installed in /wp-content/plugins/hikari-enhanced-comments/, you should have a folder /wp-content/plugins/hikari-enhanced-comments/flags/ and inside it a bunch of files with those flags.
And if you don’t even see Brasil’s name and code in diagnose, then ip2nation is not properly configured. Verify its database again, and then assure WordPress database user can access it. If you have any trouble setting up your tables, or flags are in their place but are not accessible, please again go to your hosting provider ask for assistance.
Adding flags to your theme
You don’t need to tweak your theme to have flags shown in it, Hikari Enhanced Comments adds them automatically to your comments authors. In the plugin admin page you can choose if flag should be added before or after author’s name, where it better fits your theme layout.
But you can also add it manually, if you want a more customized layout. For that, just use the function HkEC_flag($ip), where $ip is the IP whose flag you want. Flag image will be echoed automatically.
If that IP is from a comment author, you just use kEC_flag($comment->comment_author_IP) and you are done.
Upgrading
If you have to upgrade manually, simply delete hikari-enhanced-comments folder and follow installation steps again.
You don’t need to touch ip2nation tables once they are installed, but since they are updated from time to time, you may want to update them to have info about all IPs. In this case, just import the lastest .sql file to your database.
Uninstalling
If you go to plugins list page and deactivate the plugin, it’s config stored in database will remain stored and won’t be deleted.
If you want to fully uninstall the plugin and clean up database, go to its options page and use its uninstall feature. This feature deletes all stored options, restoring them to default (which can also be used if you want defaults restored back), and then gives you direct link to securely deactive the plugin so that no database data remains stored.
Plugin uninstall feature doesn’t delete ip2nation tables, regarding if they are in same database as WordPress or in a separated one. If they are not used anymore, currently you must delete them manually if you don’t need them anymore.
Also, make sure to delete “Hikari Enhanced Recent Comments” widgets before uninstalling the plugin. ATM it’s not deleted upon uninstalling, I’ll fix it in a future version
faq:
Is “Hikari Enhanced Recent Comments” widget related to WordPress core “Recent Comments”?
Well, in parts. PHP code is totally independant, but based on it. But it uses compatible CSS classes, so it shoud fit to theme layouts.
Can I use both core “Recent Comments” and “Hikari Enhanced Recent Comments” widgets together?
Sure! You can use them together and as many times as you want!
Is your titled comments plugin required to use the widget?
No, my idea isn’t to force somebody to use them together.
Indeed, Hikari Enhanced Comments was first idealized to be part of Hikari Titled Comments, being implemented on a future version. But when I started coding it, I saw that core “Recent Comments” couldn’t be simply extended (I did that ), and using filter wasn’t enough for me. Code was becoming too big and getting out of “titled comments” scope, and also there was ip2nation to be installed separated, so I decided to port these features to a separated plugin and make both compatible.
If both are available they work together, but they work alone pretty fine too.
Your titled comments plugin requires WP 2.9, and this enhanced comments requires 2.8, strange!
All my plugins require PHP5 because I use OOP, and WP 2.8 because I use settings_fields().
Hikari Titled Comments requires WP 2.9 only because it uses comments metadata. Even though Hikari Enhanced Comments supports Hikari Titled Comments, it only uses its functions, it doesn’t go over comments metadata directly, and since Hikari Enhanced Comments doesn’t use metadata code, it works with WP 2.8. Remember these plugins work together but they don’t require each other to do their own job
What happens if I don’t have ip2nation tables installed and working?
What the plugin does with that is query it for a country related to a IP. If tables are not accessible for any reason, the query will return with error and it’ll be ignored.
Without the code, the flag URL can’t be created, generating an error. And even if the code is found, if for some reason the flag can’t be accesses, same error will happen.
This error is verified, and if flag is available, its code is generated and provided. But if flag is unavailable, it will just return a harmless blank string. In HTML document there will be no track of it, and user will just see nothing where the flag would be placed.
Of course, if you are adding the flag or relying on country code or name in your theme, you must be prepared for not receiving them, due to some error or simply the plugin not being active.

AVG Free provides you with basic antivirus and antispyware protection for Windows and is available to download for free.
State of the art scanning engine provides reliable protection against viruses, spyware and other forms of malicious software.
Protects your computer against dangerous viruses, worms, Trojans and costly dialers. New: Basic Anti-Spyware.
1.MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (Windows)
Malwarebytes is an easy-to-use and effective anti-malware application. With over 8 million downloads MalwareBytes is ranked as the 6th most popular software download onDownload.com and second in spyware removal category. The users ratings and reviews are pretty good as well.
Malwarebytes’ claims to detect and remove malware that many of the other well known spyware removal programs fail to detect. I can’t really confirm that but after using it for about 2 months it has become my primary spyware removal/scanner app. I must admit I haven’t been using this one long enough yet but so far it has done a pretty good job.
While MalwareBytes doesn’t offer as many features as other tools in that category, it has a comprehensive library of threats to protect against. It’s also very light on your system resources.
The program does have a few more options open to you. For instance, it adds a contextual right-click option to scan individual files. This second option is handy for times when you have to download a file that you think is suspect or need to open someone’s flash drive.
There are some other handy addons as well. You can read more about MalwareBytes in a previous MakeUseoOf article Stop & Delete Spyware With Malwarebytes.
The Basic version which consists of a spyware scanner and removal tool is free. The Pro version costs $24.95 and comes with an additional Protection Module that can detect malware before it can do any significant damage.
2. Spyware Terminator (Windows)
I use Spyware Terminator as my secondary spyware removal tool.
I first heard about it from Bill Mullins, a security expert and MakeUseOf author who recommended the app for real-time spyware protection. In his own words:
As you can see, Spyware Terminator is my current application of choice in the spyware protection/removal category. Having tested virtually all of the major anti-spyware apps over the last year or more, I’ve settled, for now, on Spyware Terminator.
The program is easy to setup and customize, for both less experienced and expert users alike. One noteworthy feature of Spyware Terminator is its ‘Real-Time Shield’ that silently runs in the background and offers strong active protection against both known and unknown threats.
Moreover, there is a simple option to schedule automatic updates and fast spyware scans on a daily basis to ensure your computer is clean.
3. Comodo Firewall Pro (Windows)
Firewall has an essential role in safeguarding your PC. It can block unauthorized remote attempts to access your computer as well as attempts to transfer data by locally installed programs. Unfortunately not many people know about that.
Windows XP and Vista users already have the default Windows Firewall but based on my past experience I don’t find it effective and prefer Comodo Firewall instead (and so do many others).
Just like the above mentioned AVG, Comodo Firewall also came out as the best Firewall in our poll. It’s also probably the lightest one when it comes to your precious system resources. For me it takes only about 3.2 MB on average.
Comodo automatically monitors your connection and alerts you whenever some remote computer or locally installed program tries to initiate an unauthorized connection.
In many cases it also gives you advice on how to react to the alert.
Moreover, Comodo Firewall also comes with something called Defense + Host Intrusion Prevention System. This security addon helps to further secure your computer against malicious craplets before they can do any harm to your system.
Note: Like with any extensive security software if you haven’t used a Firewall before you might find Comodo alerts a little overwhelming. So, keep in mind that it takes some time to get used to.
4. NoScript – Firefox
With over 42 million downloads NoScript is the most popular Firefox addon out there. So if you haven’t tried it before it’s time to do so now.
To put it simply, NoScript makes web browsing safer by blocking everything that can potentially be used to harm your computer. The includes JavaScript, Java, Flash and other executable content.
Now there is one thing to keep in mind here, while you do get a safety net with this addon, as a novice user at the beginning you might find it annoying to constantly add sites to your “trusted sites” list. For instance, when you visit Youtube for the first time after installing it the videos won’t load unless you add Youtube to your trusted list.
But the good news, adding sites to the trusted list can be accomplished with a click of a button and you need to do it only once.
Also for the websites that present information from several sources you might have to “allow” several sites before you are able to view them in full. In such cases you can simply select “Allow all this page” option.
To sum up, NoScript does take some time to get used to but is definitely worth it. Just like like the Comodo Firewall. If you have any questions check out their FAQ page here.
5. Lastpass (Firefox / Internet Explorer)
LastPass is that one password manager you have been waiting for. Unlike Internet Explorer and Firefox’s built in password managers, data in your LastPass Vault is encrypted. The encrypted login details are stored on LastPass server which are then accessible from your browser or any web-enabled computer that you have Lastpass installed on.
It takes about a minute to install and setup.
Once you have set it up, you can start adding your accounts by simply going to sites and login as usual. When Lastpass asks if you want it to remember the login details for the site, click ‘OK’ and done. Next time you visit the site lastpass will fill the login details automatically.
You will only need to know one password, that is the the password to your Lastpass account. You will have to enter it everytime the browser is restarted.
Once logged in you’ll be able to access your web accounts with a single click. Other lastpass features include:
- auto online form filling
- ability to access your account details from multiple computers
- password generator
- and more …
6. WOT (Web Of Trust) – Firefox
Another extremely popular Firefox addon. I have been using WOT for about 4-5 months and so far it has been great. The purpose of WOT is to warn users about unsafe websites before they actually enter them. These unsafe site can mean a site known to scam visitors, deliver malware, send spam etc.
WOT uses color-coded icons show ratings for over 21 million websites – green for safe, yellow for caution and red for stop. Screenshot below shows WOT safety icons on Google search results.
As you can see from the screenshot above WOT warns about the first two entries. So I would skip them.

New album from Chicago based producer Masochistic\Values, “Order” is an album of both luscious synths, chimes and throbbing kicks interspersed with interludes of piercing industrial clangs, steam and feedback. Using these two extremes, Masochistic\Values has created an album of something beautiful and dreamlike with a certain innocence to it and demands to be listened to as one piece, not as 10 individual tracks. Enjoy.
Rating Reviews :
Inspired by the unfettered feeling of the acoustic performances filmed during Heima, Sigur Rós adopted a looser approach in creating their fifth album Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust. The album consequently is fresher and more human than anything they ve previously recorded. Rough edges, cracked notes, and the sound of fingers on strings are audible resulting in tracks (e.g. Íllgresi ) that prove to be the band’s sparsest and most affecting work to date. Worry not though, plenty of electric guitar can be heard throughout the album ensuring Sigur Rós commitment to challenging sonic limitations. Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust is truly a groundbreaking album for Sigur Rós. It s the first time they ve attempted to write, record, mix, release and support (by touring) an album in the same year. Notoriously known for their laborious writing/recording style and their Icelandic roots, Sigur Rós decided to record an album outside of Iceland for the first time. Recording, mixing and mastering sessions took place in such un-Reykjavik cities as New York (Sear Sound and Sterling Sound), London (Abbey Road and Assault & Battery) and Havana. The result is pretty much their leave home album, the anti-Heima. The opening track, Gobbledigook , is a manifesto setter with its shifting/no time signature. On the last track, All Alright , Sigur Rós find themselves singing a song solely in English for the first time. The seventh track, Ára Bátur , was performed with a full orchestra and the London Oratory Boys Choir. This was recorded in one take with no overdubs and the result was 90 people playing at once and just one perfect take. This is their first album working with Flood (U2, Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey) and the first since their debut to not be recorded with Ken Thomas. It was a true co-production, one that found Sigur Rós breaking out of old molds/habits. The cover artwork is a photo taken from a flyer for Ryan McGinley s most recent photo exhibition in NYC, I Know Where the Summer Goes , and the image captures perfectly the spirit of the album, one of free-spirited happiness and exploration. The band will be touring the US throughout the fall of 2008 to support Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust.
I was inspired to write this review as a result Amazon posted a comment to another reviewer, "This guy hates everything." I am still far from being a one star review to write, and I thought only produce another gutting snob curmudgeon every piece of garbage, a world of art tends to be a commodity? This review is my unequivocal no! It 'much easier to write a bad review, because, while so much that is bad is bad in the same way, things that are truly beautiful to lookradiate its own light equipment (yes, I aped Tolstoy there!) E 'hard on something you love to write, our words often do not understand what is moving in our hearts. For me, Við Med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust is such thing as a counterpoint (a). () As an album (also a work of genius to 5 stars in my opinion) is an epic meditation on grief and loss. I feel much when I hear, but hope and joy are certainly not easy to get the feelings in my mind. Feelingsare dark, intense, transcendent, at the moment, but with the elegance of suspension of the title 3-4, I feel like I am in a place that is more comparable to the purgatory of the sky. In this sense, after the pain, meditation and the elimination of () Við Med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust be reached in a sense, for the sky.
The music of Sigur Ros is always defined by a degree of engagement with life and death. I think the harsh reality of death and the anxiety it creates is of fundamental importance fortheir music. While () looks deeply into the crevasse great metaphysical doubt and fear dip, which is omnipresent in this postmodern era, Med sud i eyrum vid spilum Við their Redemption Song later. () We are told that we all die. Med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust Við says yes, we will die, but because life is impermanent, we like to dance and cry! This is to affirm life in the deepest sense, raging against the dying of the light in the only wayThere will be peace.
The album begins with Gobbledigoo, an effervescent, Frolic in child abandonment. One could almost hear the vocal lines repeated at the beginning, chorus and the bridge as a youthful contempt, mockery, but with no malicious intent. They are too easy to cry out to the shy boy looked at his feet in a corner, then let go all come and dance, it's time to play!
The dance is a word that comes to my mind the second track, to see that vitleysingur Inní syngur mérwas even forced to perform a surly misanthrope like me laugh, and to flail my limbs, without, at home or I alarming fellow commuters on the subway as a driving rhythm, I have been glorified in Commander Dance! The bridge, which is dynamic intensity and swells polyphonic size is one of hope, inspiration and happy musical experience that you will find anywhere. It 'hard to listen to this song and are not grateful for every moment wein this life.
I hate filling Góðan Godan as cover, it is reassuring to the other side and a transition between the two beautiful highly expressive, songs of hope for the album. Vid spilum við get us back on the train with the hope of a similar piano / bass line beat that drives us, but with the familiar and reassuring (if a little 'subdued) feeling of joy and purpose.
The next seven tracks are an easy step. The first four arealmost like laughter, joy and celebration of life, love and friends, but ironically Fest brings us to the porch, cumulous clouds and a moon more silver, a cigarette in hand, in the night and mortality, and crawled back to us comes when our serotonin levels begin to come down again. But while there is a clear sense of melancholy that can be heard, never reached the depths of the absolute loss, punctuation (). No, it is the ambivalence of death reminds usWhy you can be so painful, that is because we love so much. This feeling seems to be the rest of the album, quiet, gentle, penetrating deep love and knowledge that one day everything ends. When we heard that there is still joy in our hearts still smoking, but it's a joy tempered by the tides. ARA is the culmination of ephemeral bátur laughter of young people with the painful memory of last loss, as it gradually builds to a crescendo tear tear, which is simply sublime.
Here we are in this world, everything is fleeting, love that seems so profound as the form lines on our faces and the unbearable lightness of being in all the recesses of our souls. Yet, somehow, the wind rustling the leaves and the pale light from the sky drops to bring our hearts and we no longer afraid of the stage in this strange and wonderful journey. And when the last song reminds us, in the end all and everything is in order. And yes, my friends, is really tooif not …

MiniBoone’s “Big Changes” opens up with “Summer Jam”. Building up from a thumping bass-line and layered backing-vocals, the drums tap along before the song hits a high with the line “Tell me why I feel the way I do”, introducing a light-hearted xylophone-like melody. It’s a pretty good opener.
But the second track. I mean, wow. Just wow. “Cool Kids Cut Out of the Heart Itself” has to be the most fun I’ve had listening to something for quite a while. It just bounces. It’s lively. Admittedly I’m a massive sucker for the kind of fun drum beats and light guitar riffs that feature in it, but the song has so much more to offer. Clocking in at just under 2 minutes, combined with some “Hey!”’s and “Shoo-doop-doo”’s, this is a brilliant track. It’s excellent.
Another great stand out is “Devil in Your Eyes”. There’s another nice progression, with notably infectious verse lines. It’s just catchy, and is a bit more of a longer track than “Cool Kids…”. Though they do both work very well close to each other.
Though they don’t have the same instant effect as the earlier tracks, “I Need” and “Funny Money” aren’t bad at all, with the latter being an excellent closer for “Big Changes”. All in all it’s a catchy and fun EP.
This is the tough bit though. I really want to describe MiniBoone in a way people can relate to them, without attaching a negative stigma to them. I’d say indie-rock, but that’s too broad a term. They’re something a bit more original and musical. Something that you, yes even you, can even appreciate and like. Download “Devil in Your Eyes”. Listen to it. Think “Hey, I don’t have to pretend to be so elitist anymore. I can listen to this stuff that has guitars and sounds kinda cool, maybe even poppy. I don’t have listen to obscure noise or experimental hipster music (though there’s nothing wrong with that if you’re into that stuff). I’m cool with this music too.” Do it. It will make you feel happy and good inside. That’s the best way I can describe them. Anything else would just seem trivial and mediocre, because they have to be heard to be differentiated from the flock of mind-numbingly-boring bands out there.
I think I’m starting to understand why they titled it “Big Changes”. I can see this EP making some fairly big changes and advances for the band as a whole if they keep it up. It’s a solid set of tracks, and I’m sure with some touring and promotion of it, it’ll get the reception it deserves.
Score: 3.5/5 (Good)
